 2355    Minutes

Minutes of the Parish Council meeting held 1st June 06 were read and endorsed.

 2356    Public Question Time

Urgent item brought forward due to the attendance of A.M.F.C. representatives. 

Appleby Magna Football Club requested a contribution towards the cost of new goalposts, (total cost £800 approx.), because the existing posts did not meet the British Standards safety requirements.  The posts are used by many villagers, therefore, the Parish Council agreed to contribute £200, A.M.F.C. to contribute £150, the Parish Council Chairman contributed £50   with the Parish Clerk to apply for a grant for the remaining £400.  The A.M.F.C. representatives thanked the Parish Council.

Request received from Crane & Walton Solicitors (acting for proposed purchaser of Lavender Cottage, Rectory Lane), for informal arrangement of access to continue.  The Chairman agreed to informal arrangement to continue.

It was agreed that information from the police about local crime was reaching the Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinators quickly.  The Chairman reported a recent burglary in Appleby Parva.

2367    Speeding Traffic on Snarestone Road

A complaint had been received from a resident about speeding traffic on Snarestone Road.  It was agreed to request the police do a spot check for speeding, the clerk to inform the resident.     

2368    Applely Magna Postcode

A complaint had been received from a resident about insurance costs when the insurance companies use the post code to calculate rates.  The Appleby Magna post code is due to the post being sorted in Swadlincote.  Previously, the Parish Council had challenged the Post Office to have the post code changed but to no avail.  Therefore, it was agreed to write to the resident suggesting he complains to his insurance company.

2369    NWLDC -100 Days to a Cleaner District

A request for volunteers to assist in a campaign to clean up local areas had been received from N.W.L.D.C.  It was agreed to ask if the Women’s Institute were prepared to do their annual litter pick in the village with the support of the Parish Council.           

2370    Mawbys Lane Footpath Access

It was agreed the Chairman and Vice-Chairman would view Mawbys Lane footpaths to investigate options to make the entrances more user friendly for pushchairs etc.

2371    Registering Parish Council Land

The Parish Council had been advised to ensure that all Parish Council land was registered. It was agreed for the clerk to investigate the cost.

2372    Allotment Matters

The Chairman agreed to find out the cost of planting saplings at the road side of plot 48 where gaps had appeared.  The Vice-Chairman agreed to check that a stop tap was sited near the allotment water meter, in order to be able to switch the water off during the winter months. The Vice-Chairman informed the Parish Council the recently hired skip for allotment holders had been filled, successfully clearing most of the inherited rubbish from the allotment site.

2373    Repair to Closed Churchyard Wall

Three quotations had been received to repair the closed churchyard wall.  The quotations were discussed by the Parish Council with a local builder being chosen to undertake the work.             

 2374    Proposed Gateway Treatment, Rectory Lane

A letter had been received from the District Engineer at N.W.L.D.C. suggesting a site meeting to discuss the proposed false gateway treatment on Rectory Lane       .  The Parish Council agreed to a site meeting with the view to include costs in next year’s budget.

 2375    Ideas for Written Piece - Parish News Line

The Parish Council agreed to put in the Parish News Line the following points: -

a)         Parish Council meetings dates

b)         Details of venue for the Housing Stock Transfer Road Show

c)         Details of N.W.L.D.C. ‘100 days to a Cleaner District’ meeting

d)         Problem of litter on Recreation Ground

2376    Urgent Items

(Taken as urgent due to response times)

 Various Signing Issues – Response received from L.C.C.

It was agreed to again request the signage on the M42/A444 and Measham Road be reviewed to improve road safety in the area.  Also, to again request more lighting and countdown signs on Atherstone Road through Appleby Parva, when the proposed new safety scheme goes ahead. Clerk to send copy of letter to Cllr. Hyde and Mr D.Taylor M.P.

 Request from the National Forest BTCV

A request had been received form the above for conservation work for their volunteers to undertake.  It was agreed the clerk investigate the costs for hedge laying and footpath clearing. 

Request from Trustees of The Misses Moores Almshouses

A request had been received from the above for a donation towards the cost of maintaining grass to the front of the almshouses.  The Parish Council had previously agreed to a one off donation of £300 towards re-grassing, the clerk to inform the trustees.
