Appleby Scouts
The last month has been manic with four camps. The girls-only
Woodpecker Patrol came 2nd out of 3,500 patrols in the Challenge 100
competition last year and in May went on their prize weekend staying
in Baden-Powell House in London. Highlights included a visit to
Downing Street, the Billy Elliott musical and the dress
exhibition in the Victoria and Albert Museum.
The Scouts attended the District camp at Willesley cooking all meals
on wood fires and enjoying a huge range of activities. The Beavers
also attended a camp at Willesley and the Cubs went to the County
camp at the Oaks in Charnwood.
We would like to thank Andrew Bridgen for arranging the donation of
a 20ft storage container for our equipment.
We are really busy during the next month with the Forest Festival in
Measham, katakana races at Conkers Waterside as well as archery and
air rifle competitions at Willesley, more details and loads of
photos on www.applebyscouts.co.uk

Magna Parish Council
The Parish
Council has donated £400 to the Sir John Moore Foundation Youth
Activities Program. The donation will contribute towards the cost of
the newly purchased Wii game machine and digital movie camera.
Unfortunately,
dog fouling is a problem on the Recreation Ground. The Parish
Council is obtaining quotations for further warning signs. The new
dog fouling laws state ‘dog owners must pick up their dog’s waste
and dispose of it responsibly’. The District Council will issue
offenders with a Fixed Penalty Notice, with the offender having to
pay a fine. If you wish to report an irresponsible dog owner please
contact the Street Environment Officer on 01530 454545.
Later this year
the Parish Council intend to improve drainage on the Recreation
Ground by installing further land drains.
The next meetings
of the Parish Council will be held on Thursday 7th August and
Thursday 4th September at 7.30pm in the Sir John Moore Heritage
Centre. All members of the public are encouraged to attend the
meetings and will be made most welcome
