Church / Church Hall  - Volunteers Needed

Over the summer we would like to clear away the weeks around teh Church and the Church Hall buildings - especially bordering the footpath to the fields.  If you are able to help please contact Pauline on 274525.

Appleby Garden Fete - Thank You

Many thanks to everyone who helped to make the Garden Fete such a successful event. Thanks to Robert and Hazel for the use of the Rectory. Thanks also to those who contributed items, to the Sir John Moore children who danced so well, to those who worked to put on the event and to all who supported on the day. Not only was it an enjoyable, sunny afternoon but we also raised £1000 for church funds.

Sewing Group

is hoped to start a sewing group in Appleby, meeting once a fortnight to make items to sell at the Christmas Fayre 2009, and the Summer Fete 2010.  Depending on numbers we will meet in each others homes or in the Church Hall.  If you are interested please telephone Miriam Butler 273786 or email
miriam.appleby @ btinternet.com - you don’t have to be experienced in stitching, there will be lots of help available

Flower Festival

If anyone who is arranging flowers for the Flower Festival  has any worries, or would like to check on their space, we will be in church on Tues 21 July from 2 - 3pm, or contact us on 270270.   Margaret Ward and Margaret Selby

Appleby Film Club

The Film Club is now taking its summer break, but will be reopening in Sept. with another excellent season of films.  Last year’s season was a great success, with films ranging from light comedy, such as the popular Juno, through musicals and foreign language films, to serious dramas like The Kite Runner and La Vie en Rose.  This year’s programme will be just as varied, and, as always, compiled from suggestions made by our members.  As usual, we’ll be announcing the programme and dates when it has all been finalised in August.

If you want to join, then now is the time as we are holding our prices at last year’s level: £27 per adult or £22 for over 60’s, for 8 films.  Films are shown once a month on Fridays, and you can come to the afternoon or evening showing.  Refreshments are available, and you can bring guests if you wish (guest tickets are £5 each, £4 for over 60s).

It is a club, run by volunteers, so you can get involved as little or as much as you like.  Just come to see the films, or join in the social side too.  Either way it’s a great way to see good films right on your doorstep.

To join, or for more information, contact Alison on 01530 274302 or Marilyn on 07770 957963, or email marilyn @ applebymagna.org.uk

Want to Help?  We are always looking for more active members to help with the administration, setting up the equipment, and publicising the films.  With extra help we could run more discussions and film-related events, and if you have some technical expertise your support would be very welcome.  It’s a great way to get to know people in the village, so if you are interested, contact Alison or Marilyn.

 Women's Institute

Our next meeting on Thurs 9 July will be the Summer outing to the Princess River Cruises at Nottingham.

The August meeting will be on Thurs 13 August at the Church Hall and will be a talk by Wendy Eccles entitled 'Childhood in Lancashire'.  The competition will be 'Flower of the Month' and there will be a raffle.  The hostess will be Theresa Alderson.

The oak sapling that was given to our WI at the AGM was ceremoniously planted in St Michael & All Angels churchyard on 2 June. It is can be seen from the pavement on Church Street between the Church steps and the Crown.

 Appleby Magna Welcome Club

Our July meeting is on Wed 1 July at the Church Hall from 2.30pm. Hostesses will be Beryl and Mary. The speaker is to be confirmed. Looking forward to your full support.
