Appleby Photography Competition Summer 2011
Village Life
The summer 2011 competition is now closed - congratulations to Michael Hill. The entries and winning photos can be seen here.
This summer we are followed our successful wildlife photography competition with Photos of Village Life. The competition was open to anyone from Appleby Magna or Appleby Parva (except professional photographers or anyone who has received payment for their photographs), and to children who attend school or youth activities in the village. The judges were looking for interesting pictures that depict life in Appleby, whether it's everyday or a special event, and their decisions were based on the judging criteria.
The following gives information about how the comptetition was run.
Competition Rules
- IMPORTANT: if the picture features close-up images of people you must get their permission before you send in the picture. If we choose the picture to publish, we shall need to get evidence of their consent
- VERY IMPORTANT: If the picture features children we shall need parental consent forms signed before we can publish the picture so make sure you get the parent's agreement and contact details before you send in your picture. (This does not apply if the children cannot be easily seen or identified, eg in a crowd scene)
- Three photographs maximum per person
- No professional photographers, retired photographers, or people who receive payment for their photographs
- The photograph must be 'as taken' - no editing or photoshop enhancements
- The photographs must be taken this year, ie since 1st January 2011
- The photographs must be taken within Appleby Magna and Appleby Parva parish
- Adult entrants must live in the parish. Children must either live in the parish or attend school or formal youth activities in Appleby (eg scouts, brownies)
- Pictures must be received by email or left at the Post Office before 6pm on Friday 30th September 2011
Judging Criteria
The main criterion is the content of the picture. It must be interesting.
We are looking for pictures that show what it is like to live in Appleby. They can be taken at events such as the village fete or a community group doing something together, or it can show a typical everyday activity like going to the shop, or anything else you think represents living in our village.
We are not looking for technical perfection but the pictures must be in focus.
